Thank you to everyone who has joined Team Senses Australia in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason on Sunday, 27 May 2018. Our registrations are now closed.
We have an astonishing 144 people as part of our team this year, who are all helping us to make a big impact on the lives of people of all ages with disability, their families and carers. Together, we are raising vital funds to support our Disability Professional Services.
If you would like to make a donation to help us raise vital funds to support our Disability Professional Services in memory of Emily Becker, please visit our Everyday Hero fundraising page.
This year, we are raising funds to support our Disability Professional Services in memory of Emily Becker. Services Emily received included speech pathology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
When Emily was just one month old, she developed Meningitis, resulting in an acquired brain injury, which left her unable to walk, talk or even eat.
A gorgeous 8 year old, Emily passed away just last year surrounded by her loved ones. Emily’s zest for life touched many people that she met along the way, including our therapists, her teachers and friends at school.
In last year’s HBF Run for a Reason – Emily took part with her family. Her big brother, Ben, has been a part of Team Senses Australia the last two years, running 12kms, along with one of Emily’s therapists for support.
Last year alone, Ben raised nearly $3,000! Not only did he raise vital funds, he also inspired other siblings of children with disability to also take part. A number of our therapists arranged for brothers and sisters of children who receive our therapy services to also join in the fun.
And, this year the Becker Family will join us again!
TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Did you know in 2017, our Disability Professional Services provided more than 37,000 hours of support to 693 children and adults with disability living in Western Australia.
By being a part of Team Senses Australia and raising vital funds, every little bit helps, you can help us continue to provide:
– Group therapy opportunities for our clients and their families. We run a number of group therapy sessions each year including social skills, SOS feeding, Circle of Security, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Protective Behaviours, Early Movers, Hydrotherapy and a dance group.
– Events that encourage social inclusion and participation. Many clients have developed strong friendships over the years and regular celebrations and get togethers are an important part of maintaining friendships, socialising and having fun. Our annual ‘Walk around Burswood’ encourages our older clients to enjoy a walk around the river with support from staff and a picnic dinner finishes off the evening.
– Regular camps to enable people of all ages with disability to actively participate in their community, connect with others socially and be involved in activities that are menaingful to them. Our team is busily planning a camp for our younger clients to attend at the end of this year. This is going to be a wonderful weekend for children to connect with others their own age, take an active part in their community, while also encouraging their independence.
You too can play a vital role and together, we can make a difference.
We’d love to see you on the day, cheering on our team. If you would like to make a donation to help us raise vital funds to support our Disability Professional Services in memory of Emily Becker, please visit our Everyday Hero fundraising page.
Good luck Team Senses Australia in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason!
