Become a Host Family

Posted on March 22, 2019 in Latest News and Information

Would you like to help someone with a disability live a better life?

Senses Australia works with, and for children and adults who are unable to live with their families and provide them with an alternative family to live with.
Host Families can be a family, a couple or a single person. They play a special role in the lives of children and adults with disability and ensure they are given a safe, stable and nurturing environment to grow, as well as welcoming them to become part of the family.

We are currently searching for full-time or respite (weekend) Host Families. If you are a reliable, empathetic and compassionate person who would like to make a long term commitment to nurture the development and growth of a person with disability, we would love to hear from you.

Interview with Carole, Steve and Danny

“It was pretty easy to get started, Senses Australia came out to meet us, assessed our suitability and after completing all the paper work we met with Danny. About 4 months later he moved into his new home.
It’s really been great, we love seeing Danny blossom and grow both mentally and physically.
For us our lives haven’t changed greatly, we simply see it as an extension of our own family. We get to work from home and although we get financially reimbursed, it’s not a job it’s more a way of life.
There is a growing need for more host families and even though we have Danny we wish we could do more.
I would ask everyone to simply consider it, get the information and have a conversation with your family. You might just be surprised how rewarding it can be.” Comments from Carole and Steve.

“I love living with Carole and Steve, I get to go and do lots of things like going to motor racing. They are a great support to me.” Danny
